Dinner was a moment of great revelation for me and my fellow disciple. Words cannot describe the incredible experience that just happened, but here goes.
We sat down to dinner and the stranger, being the guest, was invited to break the bread and start the meal. He said a simple blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to us. It was in that moment that my eyes were opened, and I was immediately flooded with incredible feelings. I immediately stood up, trying to do something, but Jesus vanished from our sight. The man in our presence had been Jesus. The knowledge he had was firsthand. The miracle of the Resurrection was true!!
I have to return to Jerusalem and tell the Apostles of this great and amazing news!!

This Man Is More Than What He Seems
This stranger did not react in the way I expected to my rant. He said "Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory?"
The man went on to teach them all of what the great prophets, including Moses, and explained how they interpreted the story of the Messiah. I was amazed.
I immediately regretting getting angry at the man. He was fascinating! He was the closest thing to the Messiah I had seen since his passing. As we approached Emmaus, it appeared that the man had further to go. I really did not want him to go, so I invited him to dinner. I was just fascinated by the man's knowledge of scripture and Jesus. He accepted, so now I am going to prepare him some dinner. Bread seems like a great idea.

Who is This Guy?
This traveler is acting very weird. The first thing he did when he drew near us was ask us what we were talking about, nosy much? Like, we were already bummed out about Jesus's death, but having to explain it to a stranger and sort of relive it made it hurt more. I looked at him, eyes downcast, and questioned him in an irritated tone, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?" The man kept looking at me, never taking his eyes off mine, and asked "What sort of things?" This man was starting to get annoying because he was making me have to think about Jesus's death all over again.
I had to tell it to him straight.
"This things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see."
There was my rant, and I felt bad saying it, because how could a man possibly come back from the dead? I was just mad. I felt abandoned, and was tired of hoping for a miracle...
I just hope I didn't offend our guest. Here's a picture of him, now I guess I'll wait to see how he responds to my rant.

Journey to Emmaus
Hello bloggers of Jerusalem! My name is Cleopas and welcome to my blog of my adventures around Jerusalem! Fair warning to all travelers in the Jerusalem area, Roman soldiers have been running around the city after the death of the Nazarene, Jesus. Myself and my companion are in the process of putting some distance between us and the city, at least until things blow down. We also feel a sense of abandonment, that we have been left to fend for ourselves after the one we have been following for three years has died. I was in the middle of debating on why Jesus could not have saved himself when a man walked up to us and started to walk with us. He seems trustworthy.
